Municipio (Town Hall) in the Baroque town of Noto, one of three towns that were entirely rebuilt on new sites after the earthquake of 1693. Buildings were constructed of a local limestone that glows a soft honeyed gold color at sunset.

In the Jewish Quarter of the Old Town of Syracuse, Sicily, stores traditionally occupied the ground level, while proper homes were on the upper floor. Recent discoveries have located the site of the original synagogue, as well as the Mikvah, the ritual Jewish Bath, which has been completely restored.
