It’s my turn! I joined the Blogging Boomers Carnival a couple of months ago and this is my week to review what our boomers have recently been discussing. I always enjoy reading what’s on their minds, but this week my fellow boomers have outdone themselves with fascinating articles that you’ll definitely want to check out.
For the most intriguing post of the week I nominate John at So Baby Boomer. He asks:”How frequently could we be experiencing the same thoughts as someone to whom we feel closely connected? It probably happens far more often than we’ve ever imagined.” He explores psi, the technical term for psychic abilities, citing compelling evidence for telepathy from the study of identical twins. I have always believed in telepathy and empathic ability, so I read his article with great interest and found it to be intriguing if not astounding!
Laura Lee Carter at Midlife Crisis Queen is on somewhat the same wavelength with her discussion about finding a partner in midlife when she says: “In the spring our thoughts turn to love. Why not change your mind about finding that special someone? It might just change your life!” Laura Lee believes that our ideas create our reality, insisting that “whatever you focus on grows,” and she suggests an interesting method for stimulating your focus if love is what you seek. This one is my nomination for most hopeful of the week.
I have to give the award for the week’s most controversial post to Rhea at over at The Boomer Chronicles, who is stashing away unused pharmaceutical drugs. When she asks: “A good idea, or a bad one?” and invites readers to weigh in on the question, they comment like crazy and raise some very interesting points. What do you think? Add your opinion to the fray.
In the category of most uncomfortable or most titillating (I can’t decide which) a documentary about Bill and Desiree teaches Dina that love and connection are not ageist over at This Marriage Thing. Decide for yourself when you read her review of this erotic film that chronicles a midlife couple as they explore love later in life.
Don’t Gel Too Soon wins for most inspiring post this week. Cynthia’s thoughts about change, Passover, presidents and the joining of cultures are very timely for me. Earlier this week I read/heard about what is believed to be the first White House Seder ever to be attended by an American president. At the time, I wondered what it was all about; I wasn’t familiar with the term Seder. Thanks to Cynthia, I now know that Seder is a celebration of the liberation and survival of the Jewish people. I love the connection she drew between the Jewish tale of redemption from slavery and the history of the African-American struggle in our own country.
High fives to Andrea Stenberg at The Baby Boomer Entrepreneur who earns my praise for the best “tecchy” post. Serious bloggers will understand when she says: “Figuring out how to get more people to read individual posts is always a concern.” She shares her experiences and offers insightful suggestions on increasing readership in Anatomy of a Successful Blog Post.
Over at Life Two they’re discussing what I deem to be the most serious subject of the week: “Parents care for young children, and adult children are often caregivers for their elders, who have become frail and more dependent.” Elder caregiver expert Ellen Besso has a new e-book, The Caregiver in MidLife: Where Their Needs End & Yours Begin, which examines the difficulties and possible burnout involved. For me this one comes under the category of something I’ll eventually have to think about but don’t want to.
Ann almost got my vote for the subject I most need to address but don’t want to when she says: “If you’ve spent the weekend stuffing yourself with chocolate eggs, check out Contemporary Retirement to find out why sticking to a sensible eating plan has nothing to do with willpower.” Since her post links to a great article by Oprah’s longtime trainer Bob Greene, who weighs in with what he knows about relapse and how to prevent it, Ann gets my vote for the most encouraging post of the week.
Still in a serious mode, if you heard about the 10,000 job seekers who overwhelmed a job fair in New Hampshire, you may be interested to read techniques suggested by Janet Wendy at Gen Plus that ensure you’ll stand out in a job seeker crowd. This one gets kudos as the most succinct, helpful advice of the week for anyone who is currently unemployed and looking.
Finally, on a lighter note, the Glam Gals at Fabulous After 40 earn the title of most fun when they ask: “If the streets signs look a little blurry, or the restaurant menu is getting hard to read, it’s likely you’ll soon be needing glasses. What’s a Boomer Gal to when her passion is wearing jewelry? How much bling is too much when you also wear specs?” I might add that throughout my childhood I was forced to wear a pair of glasses much like those depicted on their post. I can laugh now, but in those days it was definitely NOT funny. Fortunately, anyone struggling with the same uncertainty now has help – send the Glam Gals a photo of your look and they will analyze it!
I do hope you will take the time to check out some (or all) of the above articles – I feel certain you’ll consider it time well spent.

Just discovered this smorgasbord of treats to be read! My only problem now is finding the time to keep up and write my own blog!
Just loved the witty summaries. It helps to have a recommendation as well as an idea of topic so I don’t chase too many bright, shiny objects. Still… you make them all sound so appealing.
Thanks for taking the time to pull this together.
