It’s Bike Week here in Sarasota and between the motorcycles, the beer tents, and the rock bands, the noise level in downtown is deafening. The bikes are pretty interesting, though. Main Street has been blocked off to traffic and there are hundreds of bikes displayed along the curbs and down the middle of the street. Most of them have been customized, with special paint jobs, specialty wheels, seats, handlebars, etc. Each bike is an artist’s canvas; no two are alike. Bikers, on the other hand, all look the same. They’re still a scruffy-looking lot, dressed as they have down through the years, in either blue or black jeans with the requisite black t-shirt and bandanna. I’d be willing to bet, however, that their appearance belies their social status. Most of the bikes displayed here are Harley Davidson, and they’re not cheap. Harleys start at $6,695 but can go for as much as $35,490, in the case of the Screaming Eagle Ultra Classic model.
In any case, I thought I’d post a few photos of the bikes, just for kicks:
Wow, I miss my home city by reading this post! There are a LOT of motorcycles and the sound is really just deafening to the ears! 🙂
