Every lane offers postcard perfect views in the tiny village of Mercatello sul Metauro, Italy, located in the northeastern province of Le Marche. As I wandered the main piazza of Mercatello sul Metauro or the back lanes, I was constantly amazed by the saturated palette of colors found in this little-known region. It didn’t seem to matter what time of day, every scene took on the golden hue of sunrise and sunset.
Artists have long held that the light in certain parts of the world are richer than in others. As a long-time photographer, I know this to be true. Strangely, when I am in Thailand, one of the places in the world I love the most, I struggle to make stunning photographs. But in Italy, it is almost impossible to take a bad photo. In Le Marche, and most especially in Mercatello sul Metauro, I found this to be especially true. And it certainly didn’t hurt that the residents of this precious village were warm and welcoming beyond all expectations.
Author’s note: I was a guest of Palazzo Donati during my stay in the Le Marche region of Italy. However, the receipt and acceptance of complimentary items or services will never influence the content, topics, or posts in this blog. I write the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
