Fishermen in Hua Hin, Thailand clean and prepare float lines after returning with the morning’s catch. Each day the fleet leaves before dawn from the canals and backwaters of Khao Takiab, on the south end of Hua Hin, returning when they have caught the day’s quota. Open-air restaurants next to the wharves display fresh caught seafood in large tanks, encouraging customers to select their meal and watch while it is prepared. Seafood choices include blue crab, giant prawns, lobster, Red Snapper, squid, mussels, cockles, scallops, clams, and oysters. In many cases, dishes are steamed, sauteed, or grilled on charcoal BBQ’s right in front of the diners, and since restaurants buy the seafood directly off the boat, prices are extremely affordable.
