Entrance to the ruins of Pompeii, Italy. Beyond the ruins lie hills where more ruins await excavation. Mount Vesuvius, which blew its top in 79 AD and buried the town in volcanic ash, still threatens in the distance.

I love the contrast there. I’m also kicking myself I didn’t go there when I was in Italy! I saw an exhibit at a museum once that had heaps of stuff taken from there, but it’s just not the same, ya know!?
Hi Stacey: I suspect you went to the National Museum of Archeology in Naples, which is where most of the important artworks that were excavated from Pompeii and Herculaneum were taken. I also visited the museum, but after I’d been to both sites, and it made such a difference, as you say. I had a much better idea what I was looking at after seeing the ruins. Hope you get to go back some day.
Awesome shot Barbara!
Thanks, Ryan!
