  1. This is the story of so much of the world in Asia and Africa. In some cases, hours of walking each way to provide enough water for that day. Incredible efforts for a village or family to live under those circumstances…

  2. This photo immediately brought to my mind the invention called the Waterwheel which is a device that carries water in the form of a wheel rather than as a container which people push along. The website for it complete with photo is here
    http://wellowater.org/ . Unfortunately this project isn’t yet available in Nepal. They’re rolling it out in Rajahstan, India initially. I really wish there was something we could do to help these people in this situation, either by helping them get the Waterwheel or by bringing in the water closer to them in the form of localised wells at the village level.

    • Hi Matthew and Mark: Progress is slow in Nepal. The really remove areas are still suffering because the government’s focus is on the larger metropolitan areas, and corruption is rampant, which may well be the bigger problem. But little by little water is being brought into the homes in the smaller villages, so there is reason to be positive.
