The town of Durnstein in the Wachau Valley of Austria was named for the Medieval stone castle, now in ruins, which overlooks it. One of the many beautiful sights seen during my Grand European Tour with Viking River Cruises.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Europe, IMO. Actually, now that I think about it, Austria has so many ridiculously lovely spots. Melk, Hallstatt, all of Salzburg. Even Vienna is gorgeous! It’s high time for a return trip, I guess.
Thanks for posting this gorgeous photo and reminding me about all that Austria has to offer.

You’re so welcome, Jane. Durnstein is a place I wish our ship had stopped – it looked so gorgeous as we sailed past. It was my first taste of Austria and, like you, I’m smitten and want to go back to see more.
