Posters of performances are plastered all over town during the Theater Festival in Avignon, France, held throughout the month of July each year. Though most of the plays are performed in French only, there are ways for a non-French speaker like me to enjoy the festival. Many are classics such as Shakespeare, which can be enjoyed despite language if the story-line is familiar. There are also many dance and song productions, which require no understanding of French. I attended a Flamenco dance show, with songs in Spanish. Neither the songs or the dance needed a translation. The performances are held in venues all over town, from theaters to bars and galleries. While some charge a small entrance fee (my Flamenco show was a mere ten Euros), many are entirely free.
Would love to catch a show in France … great photo!
Thanks Beth! I did catch a few shows, and loved them all.
