PHOTO: View of Reykjavik from Hallgrimskirkja Church

On a clear, sunny day, I was able to capture this view of Reykjavik from Hallgrimskirkja Church spire, the tallest building in the capital city.

While visiting Iceland, I saw a spectacular photo of Reykjavik, shot from a high position. I knew I had to figure out how to take a similar photo. Fortunately, the solution was just a block away from my rental apartment. On a clear, sunny day, I was able to capture this view of Reykjavik from Hallgrimskirkja Church spire, the tallest building in the capital city. One of the surprising things about Iceland was the colorful houses in Reykjavik. Even the roofs are different colors, as if to make up for Iceland’s monochromatic volcanic surroundings.

  1. I didn’t know people could actually go to the top of the church. The building itself is such a stark contrast amid Reykjavik’s low rise buildings. What a neat shot! Looking at your photos of the Icelandic capital makes me think of my past trip to the capital of Brunei, also a small country with a very quiet capital city. For someone like who lives in a big, chaotic city that is Jakarta, such scene is always very interesting.

    • Hi Bama – yes, you can even ride an elevator to the top. I was lucky to do so, because the church was not open every day and I just happened to be there on a day when it was.
