    • No Suzanne, this was taken from the top of the peak known as Machu Picchu, which looks directly across at Huayna Picchu, beneath which sit the ruins. From this view, if you looked up to the right at the mountaintop, you would see Sun Gate, which is the entrance to the site where those hiking the Inca Trail enter the ruins.

  1. Surely this is one of the most iconic and beautiful of all travel scenes anywhere. A wonderful marriage of the beauty of nature and the mystery of a lost sophisticated culture.

  2. This is beautiful. What a wonderful photo. Machu Picchu is high on our list of travel destinations. My husband and I plan to go this fall. Any suggestions?

    • Bethany: Perhaps tomorrow or the next day I’ll be publishing a story about the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel – my suggestion is to splurge on this one thing and stay there!
