People regularly ask me where I’ve been, so I created this map to show which countries I’ve visited so far. At the end of 2019 I reached my goal of visiting all seven continents and 100 countries. In addition to 100 countries, I’ve also visited 10 non-sovereign territories and dependencies. Green indicates a country I’ve visited, while purple signifies those I will soon be visiting. It may sound like a lot, but that’s just slightly more than half of the countries in the world!
Hover over the countries to see their names. In instances where I’ve published stories about the places I’ve visited, you can click on that country to read those articles.
Since 2006, my blog has provided stories and photos about the places I visit and the people I meet along the way, completely free of charge. Because I want to make your reading experience pleasurable, I don’t accept advertising or publish sponsored posts for a fee.
How on the earth could you possibly afford those travels?
Hi YachtGuy: Most people believe that travel is extremely expensive, that you have to be rich to travel long-term. The truth is that it does not have to be expensive. I am not rich and manage to live on a budget of $30 or less for accommodations and food, however I stay mostly in hostels where the room comes with a breakfast, so I really only need to pay for dinner. However, keep in mind that I no longer have a home to maintain, so no mortgage, insurance, taxes, maintenance, etc.
Hey Barbara,
I met you in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2012 ( I think) We walked through the monument area, from the Vietnam Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial. In fact you took my picture by the Vietnam wall. I was doing some work at the Holocaust Museum. We had a nice chat. Glad to see you are doing well. (I was just cleaning out an old wallet and came across your card. Ha!) Take care.
Tom
Oh my goodness, Tom! I remember you quite well. I thoroughly enjoyed our chat and walk. Sadly, I ran out of time and did not get the chance to visit the Holocaust Museum. Nor did I make it to any of the Smithsonian Museums, so I’m definitely going to return at some point to see more. Hope you are doing well and enjoying life. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave me a comment. I think it’s hysterical that you still had my business card!
You really should check out South Korea and Japan. And you’re missing out on some Scandinavian countries, too. Oh and most of South America.
You’re right Tom, and if I live long enough I’ll see them all. But because I prefer to travel slow and immerse in the culture, about 12 countries a year is all I can tackle.
Barbara, really enjoying the pics. Blessings as you travel. Paul Gunn
Thank you Paul – nice to hear from one of the many who are armchair travelers via my blog. Appreciate that you took the time to comment.

Thanks Rajiv. Seems the longer I travel, the longer my list gets, though 🙂
You are a lucky lady to be able to visit the places that I can only dream about. As Gina commented; I too will be living vicariously through your travels.
Thank you Bonnie. I really love hearing that; it makes me feel that what I do has value.
Barb thanks posting the map and I am still enjoying your travels after all these years and so happy for u and envious at the same time.
Wow, you’re lucky you’ve been to many places. Hope you could visit the Philippines too, especially El Nido.
Hi Bianca: The Philippines is really high on my list – maybe next year.
You have been to many places and i envy you. I hope you visit Kenya soon, there is a lot to see and experience.
Barbara I love your pictures of the beach and the waters around Costa Maya. We will be visiting there this January 22 2014 with my sister & her husband. They are from Ohio & we are from Tennessee. I have been trying for the last hour to see if I could find out if there is a cost to stay on the beach & use their facilities at the Lighthouse park for the afternoon when we will be docked at the new port city ( we are traveling on the NCL Jewel ). If you have any information you can give me I sure would appreciate it as we are trying to find places to visit while we are Costa Maya.
Again I really loved your pictures, I wish I could travel to all the places you’ve been but that is for another life time I think.
Sincerely Katherine
Hi Katherine: I’ve sent you a direct email with answers to your questions.
