About Barbara Weibel

Barbara Weibel After years of working 70 hours a week at jobs I detested, I felt like the proverbial "hole in the donut" - solid on the outside, but empty on the inside. Searching for meaning in my life, I abandoned my successful but unsatisfying career and set out on a six-month solo backpacking trip around the world to pursue my true passions of travel, writing, and photography. My blog features stories about the destinations I visit, people I meet, the crazy things...Read more here....

  • Steve C says:

Barbara, a great balance of foreground/ distance lighting. And a good placement of the laser too! I’ve been to the top a couple times over the years and it never gets old. However, the last time was so windy that I had to hold on to something/anything to keep from being blown over. And cold? I only lasted 10 or 15 minutes. But I’ll certainly do it again if and when Paris is on my list!

  • Keith says:

This is beautiful, and the story of you leaving your career to pursue your passions is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

    • Barbara Weibel says:

Thank you Keith. Hearing this is a very heartwarming way to begin my New Year. What I do is not easy and I sometimes wonder if I can keep ding it for much longer, but then I get a comment like yours and it reenergizes me.

  • Deb says:

Thanks for the view. We’ve been to Paris 4 times and have still yet to go up the Eiffel Tower. Terrible isn’t it? We really need to make a point of it next time. Love the blue laser capture. Happy New Year!

    • Barbara Weibel says:

Hi Deb & Dave! Happy New Year to you also. The trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower is a must do – if you can stand all the kissy-face couples. I definitely felt my singleness up there!

  • I am afraid of heights – although hot air balloons, planes, helicopters and Zeppelins don’t bother me. I will NOT be climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Thank you for sharing what it is like at the top.

  • Dylan says:

Hi, I love your blog! Sorry if this has been asked or addressed before, but what camera do you use? This photo is beautiful, as all of your other ones!

    • Barbara Weibel says:

Hi Dylan: I use a Canon T3i, but put more of my money in lenses. My walk-around is a Canon EF-S 10-22mm wide angle.
