OK, here’s a guy who’s at least as wacky as me. This is my friend Matt, trying to be funny in study hall as his girlfriend videotapes him:
I met Matt some nine or ten years ago when his parents, Annette and Steve, decided to purchase a home on the Outer Banks and they selected me as their real estate agent. On that first occasion of showing them property, Steve and Annette had their big black lab with them, so they followed me around in their car rather than riding with me, but Matt asked if he could ride with me. This adorable seven or eight-year old child stepped into my car and announced, “I’m not like other kids; I like escargot.” That’s baked snails, to those of you who don’t have adventurous palates. From the moment Matt and I met, we knew we were soul mates, in the purest sense of the word. I’m quite sure that Matt and I have known each other in many previous lives. I count Steve, Annette and Matt among my most treasured friends and was so happy to see them during this visit to the Outer Banks. Matt has grown into such a fine young man. It is a reminder that, while I was never that fond of selling real estate, out of it came some of the most wonderful friends I have ever known. You know who you are – lots of love to y’all this Christmas season and always.
